Nice photos of the pond, Chris. I might need to get out and hike South Mountain in the snow this year.

The trails at the Palisades Park can be tailored to your needs -- you can decide to either walk between the top of the ridge and the waterfront or not, and there are many ways you can loop or simply turn around and head back to your parking area.

Check the books / map on this page for trail descriptions (Hudson Palisades Trails Map from NYNJTC is great), but three suggestions on routes: From Southern End: Park at Fort Lee Historic Park, walk north out of the park, on street under the GW Bridge and immediately enter the Aqua trail which stays above the ridge. Also from the Southern End,: Park at Ross Dock Picnic Area (take park roads in) and walk White trail along the river. From the Northern NJ end park at the NJ Park Headquarters and walk north along the Aqua trail towards the NJ/NY State line.

Check http://njpalisades.org/ for which season the parking areas are open.

Are there hiking trails in the Palisades Interstate Park that are easy ( not that long, not very steep, )? We are looking for trails for people who haven't hiked in quite a long time.
We are not in the best shape.

Please get back to me to let me know if there are. If there are, which ones and where can we get a description of each trail.
